Can loud music damage our Ears?
Hearing
loss means someone not able to hear as well as other people do. If someone
is exhibited to loud noise over a long period of time like every day, by that permanent
hearing loss can occur. While taking early morning walk, traveling in a bus, crossing
the street, boarding a metro, sipping coffee in a café or just a call in the
office, throughout the day most of the people are likely to use earphones or
talk through earphones with high volume. However, by using earphones too often,
you might not be disturbing the other people around you, but you surely harming
yourself enough without taking note of it.
Earphones
generate sound waves that reach inside of our ears, making the eardrum vibrate.
This vibration extends to the inner ear via the small bones and reaches the
cochlea which is a chamber in the inner ear which is filled with a fluid and includes
thousands of small’ hairs’. When this vibration reaches to cochlea,
then fluid vibrates making the hairs also move. The louder the sound and stronger
the vibrations and the more the hairs move. The continuous and long-term
exposure to loud music leads to the hair cells to ultimately lose their
sensitivity to vibration. So, the loud music can damage our ears.
Exposure to Loud Noises, How can we prevent?
The effect of noise on
hearing depends on how loud it is (sound intensity) and how long it lasts
(duration). Avoiding noisy situations is the best prevention. If you can’t
avoid the noise, use adequate hearing protection.
