WHY IS ENDOSCOPY IMPORTANT?

 

Endoscopy is an age-old minimal invasive procedure used for diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal tract illnesses. Emergency endoscopy is of great importance since it is life-saving. By help of this method, vital or elective therapeutic interventions, mostly of the upper gastrointestinal tract, may be performed.

This method is often performed in elective conditions but it can also be conducted in emergency situations with local anaesthesia. Simple sedation allows the procedure to be well-tolerated and comfortable. Illnesses of the upper gastrointestinal tract, including the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum, may be effortlessly diagnosed and cured using this technique. Although endoscopy is reflected as a safe procedure but sometimes it can be associated with complications, including intestinal hemorrhage and perforation.

Endoscopy can be done in both emergency and elective circumstances. Emergency endoscopy must not be delayed at any cost. It is clear that endoscopy should be the core element of general surgery training.
